Exercise for SQA

Finals are kicking my tail! Because of work I have been getting behind in my SEQA class so I am going to be spending many sleepless nights trying to catch up.







This was one of the assignments, we had to write a children's story and illustrate it. This is horrible as far as the technique goes but I thought the story was cute. Jon helped me brainstorm the idea, I think I want to actually redo this over winter break. Basically the inspiration for this was I wanted to do a story that I could draw really fast, so I wanted to do an animal that would be simple and not have fur, so we came up with pigs.

We are learning digital painting in my electronic illu. It's a horrible portrait but hopefully with practice my final will turn out better.

As far as anatomy goes this isn't the best thing that I have ever done, but despite that I actually really like this piece. I think she has a very serene and motherly expression which is what I was trying to go for. I have some ideas of what I might do with this piece but I am not sure yet.

So this drawing is a bit more fantasy, I mean it's kinda cliche in the fact that it's an older woman looking longly at what she was in her youth.

This one is obviously going to need a background which is worrying me a lot bit, it's going to take some time because I am horrible at designing and drawing backgrounds, hopefully with a lot of practice I will get better :-x

I actually spent quite a bit of time doing flat colors of this on PS but wouldn't you know I would forget to save and flipping PS would shut down on my like it always does..

More TV doodles, except for the tubby cat that is the big fat boo. I am still am not as good with caricatures as Tracy but I will learn some day :-[

I <3 the 50's

They had a marathon on of " I love Lucy " and it was always my grandmother's and mine favorite show. I have always loved the dresses she wore, maybe it sounds vain but I kinda always thought I might look pretty in those outfits lol. Maybe it's just the girl in me talking!

I think this is one of the only drawings that I have done recently that I kinda like, they are simple and just clothes but I might just add them to DA.

I have a few other small things that I have done over the week but not all that much, I think I will post them just so that my blog doesn't look so blank.

Final I am working on for my Materials and Technique class, i've done 16 out of the 50 drawings ;-;. This is due Thursday so I pray I can do half today and half tomorrow along with my other millions of my projects. Soooo much to do!!!!

Block Print

My first ever block print and it got an "A". We had to do it on out first crush so I did mine on Hercules. It didn't quite turn out exactly how I wanted but it's not bad either.

The New Yorker final

Overall I am really happy with how it turned out. I did it in watercolor and added in the header with photoshop. It made a lot of people in class uncomfortable so I think it served its purpose.

This is a sketch of the project I am doing in my intro to illustration class. We have to do a cover page for the New Yorker about a topic that interests us. He wants it to be kinda shocking as well so I decided to do it on little girls not dressing their age anymore, which is something that really does upset me :-( my child will never dress like that!

Character Sketch

A quick character sketch I did for my sister-inlaws book she is writing.

Illu

Well, I have been working on this project forever now. We had to do 37sketches and 4 final images and it is just taking me so damn long. The professor doesn't want any of it on sketchpad paper so I have been having to waste all my stonehenge and watercolor paper :-(. He also wants it to be done in mixed media and try new things. So this is one of the sketches that I worked on today, I really liked the texture that I got by using an old mascara brush.

This is probably all that I will be doing for tonight, I didn't get as much done as I wanted but I will have to complete it tomorrow. It's just been hard focusing this weekend and managing all the work.

The fries look a little too pale but I wanted to keep the fries light so that the bird's head would really pop. I will probably decide more about it once I am further along.

A bit more pastel has been added, I know she is very orange but I really wanted to give her one of those fake orange tans to play up the ditziness of her character. I might tone it down a bit though.

This is a picture of my illustration project in progress, I really want to take pictures of it as I complete it just so I can see how it goes. The images aren't the best quality and it's really hard to make out a lot of the detail but it would be far too much work to scan it in pieces and than put it together and upload it.

This is it after I put down the pencil sketch and a bit of pastel. Nothing too exciting yet.

Class Work - At the Hop!

This is my final comp for my illustration class. The teacher really likes this one so I decided to go with it. The final project is on colored canson paper, we have to use black and white pastel and another color of our choosing. I ended up choosing red for my paper and orange for my color. I will be posting images as I finish it.

Due date is Monday so wish me luck!

Practice with watercolor

I just wanted to practice around with different watercolor techniques, this one is definitely different from my usual style. I don't really like it as much, I feel like it's really sloppy. I added this one to DA jut because it had been so long since I updated, but I think I might take it down or move into scraps just because of how juvenile the painting looks.

Quaker Oats is Oh so yummy!

I am not sure how to explain this one, I was feeling very irritated, I just got done with a big illu project so I just wanted to do something silly. My friend Tito had drawn some pictures using the Mc Donalds people and I thought I would try it with the sexy Quaker oats man, only I think I may have taken it a little too far xDD

WIP Art Trade

This is an art trade, I am doing with my friend Tito. It is of her characters: Mabel, Turner and Crumpet. The basic idea is that Mabel is trying to read her book when she is distracted by Crumpet's tantrum, and Turner immediately tries to quiet her down since he knows how annoyed Mabel will get lol. The End.

I still need to find a better placement for the characters and sketch in a background(which I loathe). I have never been able to quite grasp backgrounds!

More character sketches

These are the mermaid concepts, the text for it goes along the lines of " I was lonely child when I met the mermaid, and no one believed me". My professor said we could be creative with it, so I figured since it said he was " lonely " the mermaid probably was a figment of his imagination and it wasn't some fantasy book. So I thought it would be cute if maybe the mermaid was actually just his pet fish.

Hope the professor likes it.

Breaks and Hair balls

Winter break was wonderful, I spent a lot of time with my family and just hanging out at the apartment with my boyfriend.

Classes have officially started up, and I have survived my first week of classes. I want to start getting better with posting on my blog, because I do have fun with it when I actually get around to posting things. So here is some stuff from my illu class. We are doing a BW ink drawing from a selected text he gave us. I already did the thumb nails and I am working on the character sketches now. I am split though, I like two of the stories, the one about the hairy men and the one about the mermaid. I will probably ask my teacher tomorrow which one he prefers based on my sketches.
