Christmas present for Grandpa

This is a portrait of my beautiful grandmother as gift to my grandpa. I am really pleased with how this came out overall. It was really fun to do this with all my grandma's pretty freckles (even though they are a pain to paint) . However, I did make a lot of rookie mistakes with this.

I had been doing a lot of ink washes so I was really digging them and decided to do a brown ink wash for the background of this portrait, however I did the background before even thinking about my colors. Giving a fair skinned red head a dark over bearing brown background was not a good idea and because I did it ink I could not go back and take it up. My boyfriend suggested adding green on top of it to balance it out, in THEORY this sounded like a good idea, but once again I didn't think of my colors.
Brown splotches + green splotches = CAMO

So, after that I went back with white ink and rewashed all over it trying to eliminate the darkness and the green. Success! After all was said and done the background actually looked nice.

I think my grandpa will really love this :-)

EDIT : I just wanted to add that the colors came out very muggy in the scan, but in real life the colors are much more clean and vibrant.

Lol, I have to stop wasting time and get some actual drawings done instead of doing this.

Cross eyed kitty

I just really like this one for some reason, I think it's because I usually fail at making cute animals. I already posted this one on DA but I plan to do more of them. I am making this for my boyfriend's mother as a Christmas gift. She has a cross eyed Siamese cat whom she loves so I thought it would be a nice gift in addition to the sugar cookies I am baking <3

I love Christmas and the delicious food lol.

Christmas Portraits

This is the final product of my Christmas present for my brother and his lady. Originally, I painted this in color but ended up not liking it and stuck with the ink wash idea. Overall I am really pleased of how it turned out, it looks exactly like them. However, the scanned just completely killed the coloring which is upsetting because in person their is much contrast in the shadows and it looks nice but on the computer it's just flat. I still have a few more portraits I need to get done before I go home.

I am also thinking of posting this on my DA account so I can try to get some commissions for portraits but I doubt I will get any because I don't have too many watchers on DA. I am not a vain artist, and I know I am not the best, I still have a lot of learning to do but it really ticks me off that there are SOOOOO many artists on DA who get hundreds of commissions and don't know the first thing about anatomy and don't care to, while the people who try their hardest don't get anything. Maybe if start drawing everything with size triple F breasts, I will get it a break.

Amy's Christmas Present

This Christmas, I am really strapped for cash thanks to art college. So instead of buying Christmas presents I will be making them. This is one of the portraits I am doing which is my brother's finace Amy. Originally, I was going to watercolor them but I have decided to do them in an ink wash instead. I always do watercolor so I felt like now was a good time to experiment with something new.

Blog Template

It is really hard to find a nice blog template. The one I have right now is just very simple, but all of the others one I found had some kind of crazy images or neon colors. Maybe I will stop being lazy at some point and draw my own picture for it :-/

Bell Jar

Just some sketches based on the book "The Bell Jar". I wanted to do some drawings of the character based on how I felt she would look as she began her decent into her mental illness. The character of the book was meant to be auto-buographical of the author, but I didn't want to do that so instead I did them based on what I felt she would have looked like as a character.

These are just very rough sketch, there is a lot more that needs to be done to them.
